New Year, New Adventures!

I hope that everyone had a fun winter break. It felt extra long for me… but it was fun! It was really nice to see the kids this past Sunday. There was a tiny bit of confusion at the beginning of the day as the kids figured out where they were going for the new semester, but the rest of the day ran smoothly. Having everyone back here made things just feel right again. (I get a little lonely during the breaks.)

This year is already bringing some exciting activities and ambitious programming both for the school and the temple in general. It is my hope that I’ll see more families getting involved in all of the great stuff we have going on.

This past Sunday, I led a small discussion about cultivating Mitzvah-doing in our children. We talked about different types of mitzvot and what might be appropriate for a young child, vs something that our older children can handle. In class, the students brainstormed different mitzvah projects that they would like to participate in this year. Please take a moment to visit the mitzvah projects tab above to see what the students have chosen and what supplies they need to be successful.

++++++++++ School Update ++++++++++

With the new semester beginning, we had a few shifts in our schedules. Students who had Art/Music elective in the fall, now have special topics in the Spring. Students who had special topics in the fall, now have Art/Music. For those who have kids in PreK – 3rd grade, this means you might be dropping off and picking up in a different room. If you have questions, please let me know.

This week, our kids got back into the swing of things with reviews of material from last week and exciting new lessons in our elective classes. The Judaics students discussed what they wanted to do for their mitzvah projects (see the mitzvah project page for details). The Hebrew classes brushed up on their reading skills and helped each other remember the letters and vowels. And our littlest learners learned about Tu B’shevat.

Looking forward to seeing everyone next Sunday!
